# Teguise picks its 2027 Carnival theme with 412 votes

Teguise embedded a GloboPoll poll on its website to choose its 2027 Carnival theme. How it was set up, what happened and what we learned.

Every year, the Carnival of Teguise (Lanzarote, Canary Islands) is built around an **allegory**: the theme that the floats, costumes and posters of La Graciosa, Costa Teguise and La Villa all share. For 2027, the town council wanted residents to choose it, and they did it with a GloboPoll poll **embedded on the council's own website**.

## The vote

- **Question**: "2027 Teguise Carnival allegory".
- **Four proposals**, each with its own image: *Tropicalia, a taste of carnival*; *Heartbeats of Africa*; *Steampunk, the time factory*; and *A crazy carnival, Teguise in Wonderland*.
- **21 September to 2 October 2026**, twelve days.
- **One vote per person**, no sign-up: by connection and browser.
- **Results visible** while the vote was open.

## How it was set up

The council installed nothing. In the GloboPoll dashboard the site `teguise.es` was authorised and **two lines of code** were pasted into the voting page. The poll matches the site's look, people vote without leaving it, and the page adjusts to the widget's height on its own, on mobile too.

Before going live, the poll went through the **review** every poll gets: checking that the text and images are correct and that the question doesn't lead the answer.

## What happened

- **412 votes** in twelve days.
- **177 in the first three and a half hours** on opening day: most participation arrives as soon as the vote is announced.
- **72 clicks** from the widget to GloboPoll, almost all from `teguise.es`: 31 to see the full poll and 41 to the detailed results. Roughly one for every six votes.
- **Close until the end**: *Tropicalia, a taste of carnival* won with **125 votes (30.3%)**, three more than *A crazy carnival, Teguise in Wonderland* (122). Behind them, *Heartbeats of Africa* (102) and *Steampunk, the time factory* (63).

## What we learned

- **One vote per person without sign-up means knowing where each vote really comes from.** Before opening, we fixed how we read the voter's address behind Cloudflare; without that, "one vote per connection" wouldn't have limited anything.
- **On an island, many neighbours share a connection.** Mobile carriers put thousands of people behind a few addresses, so the per-connection limit is combined with the browser so nobody voting in good faith is left out.
- **The vote lives on the council's website**, where residents already go. GloboPoll provides the count, the review and the duplicate-vote control; the council keeps its page, its messaging and the announcement of the result.

## For other councils

The widget is **free**, with no vote limit and up to three active polls at a time. For consultations that shouldn't appear in the public catalogue, the Pro plan lets a poll be shown **only inside the council's website**, and invitation voting gives each person on the register a single-use code.
